Erciyes University of Turkey held the "Chinese Culture Day"

The Chinese Language Research Association of the Faculty of Art and Science, Erciyes University in Kayseri, held the "Chinese Culture Day" on May 8, 2006.

The opening ceremony was permeated with a happy and warm festive air. The Deputy Rector of Erciyes University, Mr. Kartal first addressed the attendants, stating that the Chinese Language Department, since being established, received great support from the Chinese government and the Chinese Embassy in Turkey, and successfully nurtured the first group of graduates. He said there were currently over 100 students learning in the department with an increasingly interest in the Chinese language and culture. He encouraged the students to study hard and grow into a useful person at an earlier date, thus contributing to the development of the friendly relation between China and Turkey. Mr. Shi Ruilin, the Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Turkey briefed the audience on the friendly relations between the two countries in the field of politics, economy and culture etc., and pointed out that there was a rapidly growing need for the talents with Chinese knowledge. He said the Chinese government and the Chinese Embassy in Turkey would continue to support the Chinese language education in Erciyes University and Turkey. Mr. Shi presented some DVD and Chinese textbooks to the University on behalf of the Chinese Culture Ministry and the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

The teachers and students of the Chinese Department performed some excellent art programs for the audience. Chinese teacher Mr. Ma Antai leaded some students to make a Taiji show. Ms. Fu Yifang sang a Chinese folk song with a group of students. Ms. Li showed a traditional Chinese Fan Dance. Turkish students from various grades presented some high level performances like Tang Poems reading, Chinese Folk dancing, tongue twister and so on.

Furthermore, the University would also organize some activities like art performance contest, calligraphy contest and Chinese Cuisine culture show etc..
