Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Premier Zhu Rongji offered condolences to their Turkish counterparts on February 3, 2002, after an earthquake killed at least 45 people in central part of Turkey.  On the same day, the Chinese Red Cross Society donated US$ 20,000 to the Red Crescent Society of Turkey.
