| Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Meets with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov |

On June 1, 2005, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Vladivostok - a city in the Far East of Russia. Both sides had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common concern. Li Zhaoxing said that China-Russia relations have yielded pleasing results this year. The heads of state of the two countries held a meeting characterized by rich contents during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Russia's Patriotic War. We shall actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, take more practical actions to deepen and expand the mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas and make new headways in this regard. Lavrov indicated that the Russian side feels satisfactory with the development of bilateral relations. Under today's complex and volatile situation, Russia and China should strengthen the communications and cooperation and safeguard the peace and stability of the region and the world together.
With regard to UN's reform, both sides believed that special attention should be given to the concerns of vast developing nations and small and medium-sized countries and the broadest consensus should be sought by developing democracy and through full consultations. Li Zhaoxing and Lavrov arrived in Vladivostok on the same day. They are going to hold the 4th informal foreign ministers' meeting with their Indian counterpart on June 2, 2005. |
